"After my parents died I began my journey of discovery. I was suddenly an orphan, who am I, where did I come from? I began doing family genealogy as a way to heal from my loss. My mother’s sister, shared her family history. Slowly, blanks on my genealogy chart began fill in.
This journey led me to discover that my my great grandmother was a member of the Roger Sherman Chapter DAR. I had never heard of the DAR and had no idea what the DAR was.
From generation to generation, the bond from daughter to mother to grandmother runs deep. We honor our patriots who helped to create this “great experiment” that would become the United States of America.
We are a multi-generational volunteer service organization that honors the ties we all share. In the past 30 years I discovered I descend from amazing men and women.
I am in awe with the great work members of the Roger Sherman Chapter have accomplished! For me, I love all the different ways woman can be involved in the community, state and nation. It is the perfect blend of history, fellowship, service and lifelong friends."

"I am brand new to the DAR so I am still learning a lot. Going to the state conference so soon after joining really helped to jump start my learning about NSDAR, CTDAR, and my chapter. I was a little overwhelmed but was taking it all in. I even got to meet the President General and get my picture taken with her!
The Roger Sherman Chapter is a great group of women and I am happy and proud to be a part of it and am enjoying getting to know everyone. I look forward to participating in the many service activities for our community, and am excited about all the opportunities that DAR has to offer. "

"Thirty years ago, I didn't even realize that the DAR had a mission - somehow I thought it was a little group of women who had proven they had Revolutionary War Patriots and I wanted verification of my own research so that my patriot could be on that list.
Now I realize that DAR is a jumble of women with all kinds of opinions, interests and backgrounds who just want to do good things for other people. "

"I joined DAR because I had the desire to preserve my genealogy heritage and the opportunity to serve veterans. It is my way to show my patriotism and service to my country. "

"The DAR continues to evolve and enlarge its scope, while keeping to its original purposes. Becoming a member was a huge opportunity. Being a member has led to a much broader understanding of the organization. It has resulted in a profound love for the people in our chapter and desire to continue in someway for as long as possible.
I truly think it has increased my
patriotic and civic awareness over the years. Joining DAR opens up a larger concept of family, service and community.
Membership in the DAR has been an exciting and fascinating journey for me. "

"I joined the Roger Sherman Chapter to prove my paternal patriot. I had no clue what the DAR was really all about at that time! Since then, I have discovered that this is an amazing organization. I have made friends and connections that I otherwise never would have.
Attending Continental Congress in Washington D.C., has been the pinnacle of my DAR experience! There is so much to see and do, but attending the evening events are incredible! The pomp and circumstance, patriotic music and the American flag floating out of the ceiling is an event that all DAR women should get to experience!! "
